習近平甫一上任，就提出實現中華民族偉大復興中國夢的目標。

2012年11月29日，習近平在國家博物館參觀“復興之路”展覽時，第一次闡釋了中國夢的概念?！按蠹叶荚谟懻撝袊鴫簦乙詾?，實現中華民族偉大復興，就是中華民族近代以來最偉大的夢想。”他說。

在此后一系列對中國夢的闡述中，習近平強調了“中國夢歸根到底是人民的夢”，提出國家、集體、個人三個“夢”的維度。他還在多個場合闡述了中國夢的世界意義。
